The WUMCRC Holiday Outreach Program is a tradition that remains a favorite within the communities we serve and our office. This year, despite Covid-19 restrictions, we were able to raise a record amount of funds with the help of Park Central Development and participating departments from the Washington University Medical Center. Our goal was to provide grocery and utility assistance to families in participating neighborhoods, as well as holiday baskets and food items to low-income, long term care facility residents. We also took the utmost care when delivering and packaging the gift items amid the pandemic. In the words of our Executive Director Brian Phillips, “The results were nothing short of spectacular.”

719 individual donors gave to this year’s program, and this participation allowed for many area families to safely celebrate this year’s holiday season. The gift baskets were sourced through Fields Foods, Golden Grocer, and Dierbergs. The participating neighborhoods included:

  • Forest Park Southeast
  • Tiffany
  • Fountain Park
  • Vandeventer
  • Central West End
  • Botanical Heights
  • Lewis Place
  • Academy-Sherman Park

Our grand total of donations received stands at $62,388 – a record amount for which we cannot be more thankful. Our community partner, Park Central Development, provided over $10,000 in order to purchase Holiday Baskets to families and seniors. In total, we were able to serve 80 local families and 171 seniors this holiday season.

This program’s success would not be possible without our generous donors and community sponsors who help our local families and senior residents. A list of the participating Washington University Medical Center departments is below.
