As a component of the $2 million overhaul of Manchester Avenue, sidewalks are being replaced, widened and re-purposed. With a greater emphasis on the pedestrian and the pedestrian experience, the new sidewalks will be larger to accommodate the new street trees, street furniture, trash cans and bike racks. Additionally, the “bump-outs” at intersections will strengthen the safety of those crossing the street and force cars to slow down and acknowledge pedestrian right-of-ways.
Washington University Medical Center was the original matching-grant entity for the project, funded the design work and has provided logistical support for the improvements. Check back with us in the near future for more information on the Manchester improvements.
