After nearly two years of construction and just in time for holiday travel, all sections of Interstate 64 will open Monday, December 7th. Crews are currently busy removing heavy machinery and construction materials from the highway, as well as finalizing striping in preparation of the opening.
For your only chance to walk on the interstate without traffic, you can attend MODOT’s “Fun on the Freeway” on Sunday, December 6th. This public celebration in honor of the completion of the project will be open to pedestrian and bike traffic from noon until 4pm, with the official ribbon cutting at 3pm.
The opening of the interstate will be a great “returned” amenity to Forest Park Southeast and will greatly help access to and from the area. Congratulations MODOT and the entire crew on finishing ahead of schedule!
