Sunday, hundreds of cyclists zoomed through Forest Park Southeast in the first annual Tour de Grove. Athletes and fans braved excruciatingly hot, humid and rainy conditions to participate in the day-long event filled with a 5K Run, professional, amateur and children’s races, music and entertainment.
In the main event, the Men’s Professional 1 Race, Scott Zwizanski (Kelly Benefit Strategies) captured 1st place after rain cut the race short, with teammate David Veilleux (Kelly Benefit Strategies) taking 2nd and Mike Sherer (Verizon U23 p/b ABD) placing 3rd. Here is a complete list of results from the Tour de Grove.
While weather put a damper on many of the racers and fans, the neighborhood was showcased this weekend as an exciting, creative and well-kept area. There was a great deal of collaboration in putting on this event, and all the residents, businesses, volunteers and local responders should be commended. The Tour de Grove will be another great annual event that will benefit Forest Park Southeast residents and business owners for many years to come.
WUMC was a Gold Sponsor for the Tour de Grove and helped provide logistical support to the local organizing committee. Also, the bike police patrols that monitored FPSE throughout the day were coordinated and funded by WUMC.
