Atomic Cowboy Capitalizes on Small Business Loan

Atomic Cowboy has been one of the Grove’s strongest businesses over the past 8 years, and they wanted to ensure their success for many years to come.  Therefore, Atomic Cowboy owner Chip Schloss decided now was the time to take advantage of the small business loan from Choices Federal Credit Union.  This loan is designed specifically for small businesses coming to FPSE or existing FPSE small business looking for expansion.  Atomic Cowboy was the first small business to take advantage of this opportunity and their additions will speak for themselves.

New menus and business cards were among the additions made possible by the loan.

Choices Federal Credit Union made these micro-enterprise loans available to small businesses just in time for the recent revitalization of the Grove. These loans are smaller than your typical business loan and are ideal for someone who is wanting to start a home-based business, catering business, daycare or even an existing business needing a new refrigerator or other new equipment.

We had a chance to sit down with Atomic Cowboy owner Chip Schloss and discuss his loan experience.

“The loan from CFCU was a significant part of the equation enabling us to elevate our customer experience with many design elements, rebranding, signage, furniture, lighting, new equipment and renovation of restrooms were amongst the projects that the loan contributed to. Atomic Cowboy is going on 8 years of success in The Grove we’re turning the corner on our 10 year plan and we did not want to wait any longer before we began looking at whats next with all of the new initiatives in the The Grove and new openings planned; we wanted to insure that we maintained our prominence and leadership and kept pace with the excitement of The Grove’s revitalization.”

Most banks are unenthusiastic to make small business loans. This process allows loans to be granted in the same day, as long as the business owner has all of the proper information. Choices sees this as an opportunity to support small business owners in the area. The financing is available to both profit and nonprofit businesses and organizations.

Regarding the loan process Schloss said, “It is good to know that a program that targets business in this neighborhood exists and specifically is overseen by folks who work, live, and serve the neighborhood. If we can do business within The Grove on any level we try to do so. The loan process itself was pretty typical of any loan process there is a lot of documentation but working with people who care about the success of the businesses that make up The Grove was very satisfying.”

For other businesses in the area looking to take advantage of this opportunity, Schloss had this to say, “I highly recommend this loan if there is a clear focused plan and need for capitalization that will provide a tangible return on the investment and the business has the wherewithal. I try to encourage and offer support to any new business if they need guidance navigating the programs, boards & committees, licensing, permits, hearings, etc. I am pleased to advise.”

Phil Minden, Senior Vice President stated, “This program is great because we make it a very simple process to access the loan funds. You don’t have to have perfect credit or have a lot of money in the bank in order to qualify. We serve people mainly who are not part of the main stream financial services market.”
